Are People Seeing Your Site?

When you create a website, you want to know if people are actually seeing it. And if they are, who are they, where did they come from, and what exactly interests them about your site?

Why would you want to know these things? I’ll tell you. You want to know these statistics so that you can put more useful content on your site and drive more traffic to your site.

Here are some examples:

In looking at the links that are driving people to my artist website, I see that most of them come from Facebook. So what do I do? I put more links on Facebook and therefore get more traffic.

I may also notice that people have looked at one painting the most, so I feature that painting on my home page and post the link to that painting on all the social network sites, therefore driving more traffic to my site.

These are just a couple of examples of how you can use your site statistics to drive more traffic to your site…which brings us to the question: How do you find out who is viewing your site and where they came from?

Some sites come with this feature built in and some don’t. Storenvy and WordPress both tell you your site stats. Wix and Blogger don’t. However, there is a program you can use on all of these sites, and more, that will tell you very detailed statistics about the traffic on your site. It’s called Google Analytics.

Google Analytics will tell you how many people came to your site, if they were new visitors or repeat visitors, what country they’re in, what pages they looked at, how long they were on your site, what link or search term took them to your site, and much more. You can use Google Analytics with any site, including Etsy, Storenvy, Wix, Blogger and WordPress.
